Administration fines 40 profiteers of Rs.81,500 in a campaign

KARACHI: City administration has fined 40 shopkeepers of Rs. 81,500 for violating the officially approved price list for edible items, said Commissioner of Karachi, Shoaib Ahmad Siddiqui on Friday.

Sharing details with the media, of the ongoing campaign against profiteers, adulterators and hoarders in the metropolis he said this is being conducted on daily basis for past several months and has helped people provided with great relief in terms of cost, quality and easy availability of food goods.

During the most recent episode on Thursday, the Karachi commissioner said the crackdown resulted in imposing fine on 18 milk sellers, four green grocers, 16 grocers, one fruit vendor and one chicken seller.

The areas covered during the exercise, he said included Liaqutabad, Gulberg, Nazimabad, North Nazimabad, New Karachi, Saddar, SITE, Orangi Town, Baldia, Manghopir, Civil Lines, Firozabad,, Gulzar e Hijri, Malir and certain areas of district east.

The Commissioner has also urged the citizens to also report instances of profiteering and hoarding to the assistant commissioners and magistrates of their respective areas.

He assured that immediate and meaningful action would be taken against the culprits.
