Bangladesh, who failed to qualify for the World Cup quarter-finals this year, are currently a lowly ninth in both Test and one-day rankings.

"We want to have consistency and stability and that is what we strive for. The main reason why you are not consistent is because you are not sure of your role in the team," the Australian told reporters in Dhaka on Monday.

"If I can have a great relationship with the selectors, the captain and the cricket board, then I am sure we can have consistent things happening.

"It's been proven the most stable relationship at the top generally provides the best environment and the players play better cricket."

Law, who replaces compatriot Jamie Siddons, said: "The challenge for us is to make Bangladesh the team they think they should be.

"It's not about what I think they should be, but what they expect from themselves. If they think they should be up to fifth, sixth or seventh in the world, I think that is where we should aim at."

Law, 42, who was Sri Lanka's interim coach on a recent tour of England, said the focus would be on togetherness.

"My philosophy is to play as a team because it is a team sport. I know a lot depends on individuals in the game of cricket, but if everyone is working on the same goal, it makes life a lot easier," he said.

Law, who played one Test and 54 one-day internationals for Australia, added: "I am still very young as a coach and it is a great opportunity for me to learn with some of the most talented cricketers on the planet.

"Hopefully, the knowledge I have gained in first-class cricket I can impart a bit of that knowledge to the players so that they can become as good as they can be."

Law's first assignment is the tour of Zimbabwe next month for a one-off Test and five one-day internationals.
