More rain, snowfall over hills likely on Monday
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) on Sunday forecast more rain with snowfall over the hills for most parts of the country during next 24 hours.
An official of the Met Office told APP that the western disturbance affecting central and upper parts of the country is likely to persist for next 24-48 hours which will cause rain/snowfall over the hills at isolated places in upper Punjab, North-Balochistan, and while at a number of places in Kyhyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir on Monday.
The isolated showers are also expected in Islamabad on Monday and there are chances of good snowfall over hills in Kashmir , Gilgit-Baltistan, Murree and Galliyat during the period.
Meanwhile, the Met Office has advised people to remain careful due to the risk of landsliding along major roads in Murree caused by prolonged rainfall and blockade of link roads due to heavy snowfall.
The official said the rain spell will cast positive impact on crops especially in the rain-fed areas where crops were under moisture stress due to prolonged dry weather conditions.
The weather system will likely to subside from Tuesday and weather will remain dry in most parts of the country during the next few days.
The official said that more rains are likely to occur this month as two more spells are predicted in February which will be fruitful for the agriculture sector.
In Sindh, dry weather is likely in most parts of Sindh during next few days. However, isolated light rain may occur over upper Sindh during next 24 hours.
The Met Office advised people to remain careful due to the risk of landslides along major roads in Murree caused by prolonged rainfall and blockade of link roads due to heavy snowfall.
The chief amount of rainfall recorded on Sunday was Pattan 47 mm, Balakot 21 mm, Swat and Abbotabad 18 mm, Risalpur 8 mm. On Sunday, Malamjabba received 14 inch snowfall, Kalam 4.5 and Skardu 01 inch during last 24 hours. Minimum temperatures recorded on Sunday were Islamabad 7 C, Lahore 12 C, Quetta 3 C, Karachi 18 C, Peshawar 11 C, Muzaffarabad 8 C, Gilgit -1, Multan 10 C, Murree 2 C, Faisalabad 10 C and the lowest minimum recorded in Gupis was -5 C.
