Flood victims call for immediate relief

This was stated by Muhammad Madad Shah, Chairman Coordination Committee of Yasin valley district Ghizer while addressing a press conference here Monday.

Shah flanked by dozens of affectees criticized the district administration and alleged corruption in edible commodities and other relief items.

He said the public representatives of Yasin valley could not speak in front of the government officials and when they tried to protest for their rights they were threatened of dire consequences and asked to vacate the government buildings where they had taken shelter.

He also criticized the role of Aga Khan Building Improvement Service and said it had set up a shelter model in its office at Gilgit and whenever donors visit they are shown the model shelter whereas the shelters on grounds were not in accordance with the standard.

He said 400 households were without homes and residing in shelters set up by Non-governmental Organizations.

Shah said Darkut Thoi, Damlgan, Gandai, Sandhi, Barkulti, Hundur, Tursut and Amlsat villages were giving picture of ruined areas and the population of these villages was in miserable conditions.

He said houses, standing corps, trees, orchards and other properties were almost destroyed in every village and major portion of the population lost every thing but the administration officials did nothing for them.

He demanded of the government to investigate into the affairs and prepare a fresh list of affected people to meet their demands.
