Alternate energy for a quick yet clean fix

Every time the country goes gaga over some potential discovery in the E&P sector or some major import plan to bring energy to the deficient land, if its the not price the project completion time spill water on all hopes.
The significance of these massive energy ventures such as extracting gas from the expensive tight gas reserves, pricey gas import and pipelines in security-lacking areas cannot be denied. However, what the country needs as of now is a quick boost if not a complete fix, especially when these ambitious projects are far from completion any time soon.
Moreover, the growing energy demand especially that of Asia and Pacific region has forced the world to not only probe for innovative ways of generating energy but also keep in check the emissions. And Pakistan, which already lags far behind in addressing its power sector issues, cannot just ignore the environmental degradation that comes with the conventional non-renewable fossils.
During CY11, Pakistan initiated a few projects with Asian Development Banks help, trying to alleviate some of its power sector woes. ADBs Clean Energy Investment Report 2011 reads, The Foundation Wind Energy I and II Projects will help Pakistan meet the electrical capacity shortfall in the country. These are two wind power plants located in the Gharo, aiming at generating 50MW each.
Besides, the 147MW Star Hydro Power Limited is another 100percent clean investment from ADB which is projected to save 632.6 giga watt-hours of energy per year.
The Asian Development Bank has been pursuing a clean energy policy for quite some time and has been active in the domestic renewable sector the past couple of years. The year CY10 saw developmental loans worth 268 million dollars while CY attracted 164 million dollars.
That said the renewable sector can provide country with short to medium term relief. However, with hardly any policy initiative in this regard, one could only pray that these renewable plans do not go distinct as well.
