PPP presented lives for democracy: Governor Latif Khosa
He was addressing a seminar on "impacts of Zia dictatorship on the country's politics" in connection with the Black day, jointly organised by Pakistan People's Party Punjab and Lahore chapter here at Aiwan-e-Iqbal.
The governor said that on July 5, 1977, a dictator had usurped the rights of people by toppling the elected government of the PPP and arrested the great leader of the nation.
He said that Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto had said that democracy was the best revenge, adding that today the soul of Gen Zia could see his name had become a curse and the name of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto was alive in the form of PPP workers.
He said that ZAB Shaheed was alive in the parliament, president house and in the prime minister house.
He said the PPP had won almost every election after 2008 election with the support of the people, and he hoped that it would also win the next general election.
"We will come into power for next five years not only in Punjab but also across the country," he added.
The governor said that grand alliances of small dwarfs of politics could do nothing to PPP as it was not 1977 and added that it was 2011.
He said the people were well informed now so no dictator could succeed in his design.
He said workers of the party were its real power and the PPP was the only party which always protected the rights of women, labourers, youth, farmers and the students.
He said the PPP was the name of spirit, vision and public service and its leadership was the guardian of the people.
Jahangir Badr, PPP Central General Secretary while addressing the seminar said the PPP wanted all parties to come forward and join hands for national interests by forming a joint agenda.
He said that some defeated elements in politics were struggling for a grand alliance against the PPP and democracy like Pakistan National Alliance (PNA) formed against Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Shaheed but, he added the PPP was always ready for elections and even for facing such alliances.
He said PPP would continue its journey for democracy and sovereignty of the country, which started under leadership of ZAB Shahed and continued under leadership of President Asif Ali Zardari. "This journey will continue till the last victory," he added.
He invited all parties to join their hands with the government for resolving problems of the masses.
Badr said PPP was following politics of reconciliation in line with vision of Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Shaheed and grand alliances were made by those powers who were companions of Gen Zia and they did not like democracy in the country.
He lauded ZAB Shaheed for his contribution for the country and democracy.
Imtiaz Safdar Wariach, PPP Punjab President on the occasion alleged that the enemies of ZAB Shaheed were making alliance against the PPP and talking about a long march against it but, he said now the PPP knew how to stop long marches.
Imtiaz Alam, general secretary SAFMA, Sami Ullah Khan, PPP Punjab General Secretary, Dr Ajmal Niazi, senior columnist, Sarmad Basheer, Lahore Press Club President, Farrukh Sohail Goindi, columnist and Zafar Masood Bhatti, PPP Lahore Senior Voice President also addressed the seminar.
Hundreds of PPP and People's Student Federation workers attended the seminar.
Participants were raising slogans in favour of ZAB Shaheed, PPP and PSF.
