77 shopkeepers fined for violating official price list

KARACHI: Commissioner Karachi, Shoaib Ahmad Siddiqui Tuesday said that Karachi divisional and district administration has challaned 77 shopkeepers and imposed a fine of Rs 77,700 for violating the official price list for edible items.

Those fined were said to include 22 milk sellers, 19 grocers, 13 chicken sellers, 13 green grocers, nine fruit sellers and one flour miller.

Saddar, Civil Lines, Garden, SITE, Baldia, Ferozabad, Jamshed Quarters, Gulshan e Iqbal, Gulzar e Hijri, Liaqutabad, Nazimabad, North Nazimabad, Orangi, Baldia, Bin Qasim, Ibrahim Hyderi, New Karachi, Landhi, Korangi and Model colony were cited to be areas where the crackdown against profiteers was carried on.

The Commissioner warned the retailers indulged in fleecing public under any context that they would be handled stringently lest they followed the law.

Siddiqui in this context said the administration is also fully alive to its responsibility to counter attempts being made by some of the traders to create artificial shortage of essential food items.
