ATHENS: A 5.0-magnitude undersea tremor struck Friday off the northern Greece peninsula of Halkidiki, a major tourist destination, the national earthquake observatory said.

There have been no reports of injuries or damage in the area, some 218 kilometres (135 miles) north of Athens.

Earthquakes occur frequently in Greece. In January, thousands of people were left homeless by a quake on the Greek Ionian island of Cephalonia.
