Over 800 shopkeepers fined, 18 arrested in ten days for profiteering

KARACHI: The divisional and district administration Karachi during last ten days, has challaned 824 shopkeepers and fine of Rs. 11,90,000/- were imposed while 18 shopkeepers were sent to jail for continuous violation of officially approved price list.

According to a statement issued here on Thursday, during crackdown the administration fined 289 milk sellers, 130 food items grocers, 258 chicken sellers, 59 fruits sellers, nine meat vendors, four flour sellers and 75 vegetables sellers.

The action against profiteers were taken in the areas including Saddar, Civil Line, SITE, Garden, Baldia, Ferozabad, Jamshed Quarters, Gulshan Iqbal, Gulzar Hijri, Liaquat Abad, Nazimabad, North Nazimabad, Model Colony, Landhi, Korangi, Orangi, Ibrahim Hyderi, Bin Qasim and New Karachi.

Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui has said that the operation against profiteers will continue till the sale of essential items is not ensured according to officially approved price list.
