England beat Sri Lanka in first ODI

28 Jun, 2011

Pace bowler James Anderson was the pick of the England attack taking four for 18 as Sri Lanka slumped to 121 all out chasing a revised total of 232.

England made 229 in their 32 overs after a storm halted play for three hours and Sri Lanka's target was subject to a Duckworth Lewis amendment.

The tourists never recovered from Anderson's opening spell when he took three for 14 in four overs.

Sri Lankan veteran batsman and 1996 World Cup winner Sanath Jaysuriya - who turns 42 on Thursday - was unable to bow out of international cricket in glorious fashion as he exited for only two caught by Eoin Morgan off Tim Bresnan in his final ever innings.

Score summary

England 229-8, 32 overs (C.Kieswetter 61, E.Morgan 45, L.Malinga 3-40) Sri Lanka 121 all out, 27 overs (J.Anderson 4-18, G.Swann 3-18)
