KARACHI: City administration in its ongoing campaign against profiteers collected a fine amount worth Rs 2,99,000 from 223 retailers, said a report issued from Commissioner office on Monday.

During their routine visits to different retail markets in the city, the concerned vigilant teams challaned 42 milk sellers, 22 retailers of chicken, 67 vegetable merchants and 82 fruits retailers.

15 shopkeepers were arrested and sent to jail for their persistent violation of officially approved price list and overcharging the buyers.

The vigilant teams of city administration took action against profiteers in the areas including Saddar, Civil Lines, Garden, Site, Baldia, Ferozabad, New Karachi, Jamshed Quarters, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulzar-e-Hijri, Liaquatabad, Nazimabad, North Nazimabad, Orangi, Bin Qasim, Ibrahim Haidery, Landhi, Korangi and Model Coloney.
