Sindh govt to provide 7000 tractors on subsidized rates: Qaim

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qiam Ali Shah has said that 7000 tractors would be provided to the growers on subsidized rates this year in different parts of the province.

Presiding over a meeting of office bearers and members of Sindh Chamber of Agriculture (SCA) here on Tuesday, he said in addition to that 250 tubewells on solar energy will also be installed in different parts of Sindh.

Talking about the establishment of special export promotion zone at Hyderabad, the Chief Minister said that since this matter pertained to the Federal Government, he would recommend to Federal Government for taking concrete measures in this regard.

In addition to province's own sources and PSDP Programmes under implementation, the chief minister said, the Sindh Government was negotiating with World Bank and other international donors agencies to carry out the lining of distributors, strengthen Precious Land Leveling (PLL) system to avoid flood irrigation and save water, introduce drip irrigation system and other watering improvement projects.

He said that the Sindh Government was also ready to sponsor the growers organizations for their study visits abroad to learn about modern cultivation.

Expressing his dismay over the poor performance of Field Assistance and Field Officers of Agriculture extension wing, he directed the Secretary Agriculture to pay surprise visits and take severe action against the absenting officials.

He said that despite difficulties the Sindh Government enhanced the procurement rate of wheat from Rs 1200 to 1250 and assured the growers that reasonable prices of their different production would be provided to them.

He directed the Secretary Irrigation to ensure full water supply up to tail end and take action against those who found tempering with the modules or indulging in water theft.
