Syria's Hoboob says sells 200,000 tonnes wheat to Iraq

ABU DHABI: Syria's state cereal body, the General Establishment for Processing and Trade (Hoboob), said on Tuesday it had sold 200,000 tonnes of wheat to neighbouring Iraq in a tender.

The wheat was sold at 206 euros per tonne, free on trucks, a source at Hoboob told Reuters.

Hoboob said it sold 100,000 tonnes of soft wheat and 100,000 of durum wheat.

Syria launched a tender for a second time last month to sell wheat to Iraq from its Hassaka region.

It is selling Syrian wheat from its 2013 crop.

Traders have said it may be easier for Syria to sell its wheat from Hassaka to Iraq rather than transport it back to Damascus.
