Nandipur Power project to start power generation in May

LAHORE: First Turbine of Nandipur power project is expected to become operational in May next.

One hundred megawatt electricity would be generated by its working, an official of the project told APP here Wednesday. He said, the present government soon after coming into power started efforts for the revival of the project which had become doldrums due to lack of interest of the previous government.

To a question, he said that additional amount of Rs 27 billion was spent on the project. This additional expenditure were spent due to the negligence of the previous government, he added.

Nandipur Power Project was not completed in the previous tenure due to the reasons best known to the previous rulers, he said.

He said that the machinery was kept rusting at Karachi Port but they did not put an attempt to start it.

He said that the Chinese company had returned back to China after they failed to fulfil demands of previous rulers.

He said that it was due to restless efforts of the present government that this project is going to start electricity generation with in a shortest possible time.
