The Changzhou-based company said a gradual rise in demand in the United States and Germany would help eliminate excess global inventory that had weighed on its margins in the second quarter.

"We expect our gross margin to bounce back in the third quarter as our costs continue to fall and demand becomes stronger," said Chief Financial Officer Terry Wang at a Reuters Climate and Energy Summit.

Trina Solar said its third-quarter gross margin percentage would rise to the mid-20s after slipping to the low 20s in the second quarter. Trina is one of the world's lowest-cost manufacturers of solar panels, with margins above 30 percent for all of 2010.
