MILAN: Italy paid the highest yield since December 2013 to sell 7 billion euros of six-month bills at an auction on Monday, with tensions between Russia and the West over Ukraine weighing on market sentiment.

The treasury paid a yield of 0.594 percent compared with 0.504 percent at a previous auction a month ago.

The bid-to-cover edged down to 1.61 from 1.66 previously.
