Trade deficit in May widens to $1.98bn

The trade deficit was $870 million in April.

Exports increased to $2.30 billion in May, from $1.73 billion a year ago, according to the FBS. Imports totalled $4.28 billion in May, up from $3.36 billion in May last year.

The country's trade deficit for the first 11 months of the 2010/11 (July-June) fiscal year was $14.10 billion, compared with a $13.97 billion deficit in the same period last year.
