Tropical Storm Adrian was late Tuesday some 355 miles (570 kilometers) south of the Mexican resort town of Acapulco, with increasing winds of near 45 miles (75 kilometers) per hour, officials said.

Adrian was "likely to strengthen" as it heads in a west-northwesterly direction -- away from land -- at around three miles (six kilometers) per hour over the next few days.

There are no current coastal watches or warnings for Mexican or US states, said the NHC.

The latest forecasts show the eastern Pacific's hurricane season will likely feature nine to 15 named storms, and five to eight hurricanes, but with indications of 70 percent chance of a below-normal season, said the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) last month.
