Pakistan should import gas from Iran: Shamim Akhtar

ISLAMABAD: Former Managing Director, Sue Southern Gas Pipelines Limited, Prof. Shamim Akhtar has said that like other countries, Pakistan should import gas from Iran.

Talking to a private Radio channel, he has said despite the US ban, Iran exports its oil to India, UAE and China.

Responding to a question, he said that if US imposes ban on Pakistan, it would fan anti-US feeling in the people who have already faced economic problems here.

He said that the government could find solution of buying gas from Iran if it seriously wishes in this regard.

Responding to a question, he said we are facing energy shortage and in order to overcome this, Pakistan should import gas from Iran.

Prof. Shamim Akhtar said that close relationships of Saudi Arab with Pakistan is basic hindrance in importing gas from Iran.

He said that Pakistan should focus on its own interest and import gas from Iran added that he said that Pakistan can pursue Washington in this regard.
