53 shopkeepers fined for over-charging, three jailed

KARACHI: The Divisional and district authorities continued crack down against profiteering in the city on Friday during which 53 shopkeepers were challaned realising total amount of Rs48500 as fine from them a press release issued here on Saturday said.

Three shopkeepers were sent to jail for continuous violation of approved price list, it added.

Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui in a statement said that the government would not allow the profiteers to fleece citizens by overcharging. The shopkeepers’ challned included 25 chicken meat sellers, 18 milk sellers, 5 green grocers, 4 fruit vendors and one grocer.
