Telecom tele-density reaches all time high with 77.1pc mark

ISLAMABAD: The telecom tele-density has reached all time high at 77.1 per cent including total mobile phone subscription of 132.33 million by November last year.

In October last year, the total tele-density including fixed line, Wireless Local loop (WLL) and mobile phone was 76.9 per cent and total number of mobile phone subscription was 131.53 million.

As per stats made available by Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), the number of mobile subscribers in Pakistan reached 132.33 million at the end of November 2013 with 73.5 per cent tele-density.

Mobilink remained the largest operator, with 37.72 million customers, an increase of 190,000 from the previous month. Telenor Pakistan passed the 33 million mark, with the addition of around 180,000 new customers in November.

Zong showed the strongest customer growth, up by almost 280,000 to 23.72 million, and Ufone was little changed in the month at 25.01 million. Warid posted a small increase in its customer base, to 12.87 million.

By November last year, there were around 3.04 million fixed line subscribers with 1.7 per cent tele-density and 2.91 million wireless local loop users with tele-density of 1.9 per cent.

The figures for broadband penetration showed 3.03 million subscribers at the end of October, of which 1.26 million on CDMA EVDO and 1.15 million on DSL.
