94 shopkeepers fined for over charging

KARACHI: During the unabated campaign against profiteering and overcharging of essential commodities in local markets, 94 shopkeepers were challaned and a total amount of Rs 107500 was recovered from them.

They were found violating the official price list by Assistant Commissioners in their respective jurisdictions, said Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Sidiqui in a press release issued here on Saturday.

The areas from where the violators were challaned included Gulshan-e- Iqbal, Garden, Korangi, Bin Qasim, Airport and North Nazimabad.

The shopkeepers included 47 chicken meat sellers, six selling various edibles, 8 green grocers. 3 fruit vendors and 30 milk sellers.

Two shopkeepers were sent to jail for being habitual violators of price list.
