Gilani exempted appearance in OGRA case

ISLAMABAD: The Accountability Court on Tuesday granted exemption to former prime minister Yusuf Raza Gilani from appearing in case pertaining to the alleged illegal appointment of former Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) chief Tauqeer Sadiq.

During the course of hearing, Yusuf Raza Gilani and Raja Pervez Ashraf appeared before accountability court Judge Muhammad Bashir, where Gilani's lawyer Amjad Iqbal Qureshi pleaded to the court to provide permanent exemption to his client because of security issues.

He stated that Gilani's son was still missing and had not been recovered yet.

After hearing the arguments, the court accepted the plea and granted exemption to Gilani from appearing in the court.

The two ex-premiers are accused in a reference relating to illegal appointment of former Ogra chief Tauqeer Sadiq. The hearing was later adjourned till March 5.

While talking to the media after the hearing, Yusuf Raza Gilani said that he respects judiciary and has always ensured his presence whenever summoned.
