Seafood exports surge 28.64pc

 

Exports of fish and fish preparations were recorded at US$233.935 million during July-April (2010-11) as compared to the exports of US$181.854 million during July-April (2009-10), according Federal Bureau of Statistics (FBS) data.

As mush as 104,715 metric tons of fish and fish preparations were exported during the period under review against the exports of 85,226 metric tons last year, showing an increase of 22.87 percent in quantity.

On the other hand, the fish exports during April 2011 increased by 52.71 percent and 36.40 percent against the exports of April 2010 and March 2011 respectively.

Fish exports were recorded at US$36.666 million in April 2011 against the exports of US$24.011 million in April 2010 and US$26.881 million in March 2011.

In quantity, the seafood exports surged by 51.58 and 33.76 percent in April 2011 when compared to April 2010 and March 2011.

As many as 17.239 metric tons of fish was exported during April 2011 against the exports of 11,373 metric tons in April 2010 and 12,888 metric tons in March 2011, the data revealed.
