Quake shakes southern Philippines

The quake hit at 3:13 am (1913 GMT Monday) some 160 kilometres (100 miles) east-southeast of the city of General Santos at a depth of 35 kilometres, the US Geological Survey said.

The Philippines is part of the Pacific Ring of Fire, where frequent volcanic eruptions and earthquakes take place.
