Finns support financial aid to euro zone states:poll

Published Updated

Comments from officials and media reports suggest members of parliament are evenly split on the Portugal bailout. Finland's parliament, unlike others in the euro zone has the right to veto bailout plans.

The poll commissioned by daily newspaper Iltalehti said 47 percent of respondents were in favour of Finland helping countries in crisis with loans and loan guarantees, while 39 percent were against. Some 13 percent were undecided.

The poll was conducted between May 5 and May 6, the newspaper said.

Before last month's parliamentary election, where anti-bailout True Finns scored large gains, a poll found 59 percent of those surveyed oppose aid and 31 percent favour it.
