263 shopkeepers fined for overcharging

KARACHI: As the campaign launched by the local administration against profiteering and other irregularities during the month of Ramadan some 263 shopkeepers dealing in different edible items were challaned and fined on Friday last says an official press release issued here on Saturday.

The violators included 53 milkmen, 71 fruit vendors, 58 vegetable sellers, 20 chicken meat sellers, 14 red meat sellers, 44 shopkeepers dealing in different provision items and three shopkeepers selling flour on higher rates than officially prescribed.

A total amount of Rs467,700 was recovered from the defaulters as fine.

In the meantime Commissioner Karachi Sohail Ahmed Siddiqui renewed his commitment to continue crack down against profiteers.
