Telecom sector revenue shows 11pc growth

ISLAMABAD: The telecom sector has generated Rs411 billion revenue last year and showed 11 percent growth as compared to 2011.

The sector, in view of challenging economic environment in the country performed relatively better and most telecom indicators showed a positive growth.

Figures of Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) for 2012 on Tuesday revealed that broadband subscribers have crossed 2.1 million mark and cellular subscribers crossed 120 million mark with tele-density of 72 percent.

However, investment remained low in the sector and only US $ 240 million were invested during the year compared to US$ 493 million in 2011 as basic telecom infrastructure has been laid down by the telecom operators.
