60 repaired houses handed over to Christian families

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif Sunday handed over 60 repaired houses and renovated churches to the affected Christian families here at Joseph Colony in Badami Bagh area.

On this occasion, he said the whole nation had strongly condemned the reprehensible act committed against Christian community and he, once again, apologized to Christian brethren for the incident, besides assuring them of strict action against the elements involved in the incident so that no one could dare to indulge in such inhuman act in future.

He said that financial assistance of Rs 500,000 per family had been paid to the affectees, and the remaining repair work would be completed within a week, adding that grievances of Christian brethren would be redressed.

Shahbaz said that Christian community had played a commendable role for the development of Pakistan and promotion of education, asserting that whole nation was proud of courage and bravery displayed by Cecil Chaudhry of Pakistan Air Force in 1965 War.

The Christians had equal rights under law and constitution of Pakistan and their protection was responsibility of the state, he maintained.

The chief minister hoped that Christian brethren would soon forget the incident and join their other Pakistani brethren in the efforts for progress and development of the country.

Senators Pervaiz Rashid, Kamran Michael, PML-N leaders Hamza Shahbaz Sharif, Pervaiz Malik, Malik Riaz, and high-ups of relevant departments were also present.
