At least 12 dead in eastern Libya fighting

Officials at Benghazi's Jala hospital said it had received nine "martyrs" from the fighting and 14 wounded people, and a doctor at the Al-Hawwara hospital said it had received three dead and three wounded.

Rebels appeared to have held on to most of the town by Sunday afternoon, but there was still some fighting near the western gate, according to an AFP correspondent.

Libya's popular revolt began as a nationwide wave of protests against the 41 year reign of Moamer Qadhafi but escalated into a civil war when his troops fired on the demonstrators and the rebels seized several eastern towns.
