Strict action to be taken on sale of unregistered, smuggled medicines

ISLAMABAD: Minister for National Health Services Regulations and Coordination Aamer Mehmood Kiani on Wednesday said that stern action will be taken against those found involved in the manufacturing and sale of unregistered, counterfeit and smuggled medicines.

In a statement, the minister said that Chief Executive Officer, Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan(DRAP) has been directed not to allow manufacturing and sale of these drugs in the country.

He asked to register cases on sale of unregistered or smuggled drugs as these drugs may lead to harmful effects.

He directed DRAP to take immediate action against culprits and if any person found involved in activities in contravention to DRAP Act 2012, and Drug Act 1976 should be dealt according to law.

He said that DRAP has conducted raids throughout the country and seized unregistered drugs. He added cases have been registered against culprits and violations against DRAP ACT 2012 and Drugs Act 1976.

He said that seven drugs have been seized in Dubgari market Paeshawar in crackdown against unregistered, counterfeit and smuggled medicines.

He added DRAP team also raided in Lahori market and sealed premises of Naseer Medical Store on unlicensed sale of drugs.

He said that the action was taken in coordination with Federal Inspectors of Drugs against the culprits involved in such heinous crime.

He assured that the menace of unregistered, counterfeit and smuggled medicine will be eradicated from the country so that standard and safe medicine are provided to the public.
