Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb met International Monetary Fund (IMF) Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva and briefed international investors on Pakistan’s economic stabilisation, fiscal consolidation and efforts to diversify external financing on the sidelines of the IMF-World Bank Annual Meetings 2026 in Bangkok.

Aurangzeb also participated in the JP Morgan Investment Seminar on “Pakistan: The Road to Resilience in a Turbulent Global Economy Landscape”.

During the seminar, the finance minister highlighted progress in macroeconomic stabilisation, fiscal consolidation, revenue mobilization and sustained primary surpluses. Discussions covered strong remittances, improved foreign exchange reserves, a contained current account deficit and external debt repayments.

He outlined efforts to diversify international financing and replace costly borrowing without increasing the external debt stock. He reaffirmed commitment to the IMF programme and continued structural reforms, alongside prudent monetary policy to contain inflation.

Aurangzeb emphasised targeted support for vulnerable households, careful energy procurement and sustainable, export-led growth. Discussions also addressed federal–provincial fiscal coordination and stronger trade and investment partnerships.
