New generation must adopt right approach in social media era: Governor

KARACHI: Sindh Governor Syed Muhammad Nehal Hashmi on Tuesday urged the new generation to adopt the right approach as an obligation in the social media era. He was speaking as chief guest at Al-Khidmat’s “Karachi Youth Summit” at the Expo Centre.

“This is the era of social media. It offers civility and incivility; it makes friends and foes. Rising above every prejudice, the new generation must set the right direction for its future,” he said. “We must take part in nation-building through positive use of social media.” He added it was fortunate that Al-Khidmat was caring for and guiding youth.

JI Karachi chief Monem Zafar Khan and Al-Khidmat CEO Naveed Ali Baig also spoke. The summit featured debate, short film and robotics competitions, plus Youth Talent Showcase, Technology and Robotics Zone, Volunteer NGOs Zone and other areas. Corporate stalls offered career counselling and a job fair.

Nehal Hashmi said this was the era of information technology. Information was once limited; today youth had resources and were innovators. It was encouraging that Al-Khidmat worked in IT alongside social services, creating employment opportunities and helping youth emerge from despondency.

“Youth must dream. If they dream, God willing, it will come true. A new era of transformation is unfolding. Through the Prime Minister’s Digital Hub, entrepreneurship, employment opportunities, easy loans and complete guidance are being provided to youth,” he said.

He said that the youth were the country’s future, and the coming era was one of inventions. They could help build and develop Pakistan. “We must think for Pakistan together, rising above religious and political differences, and play our part in its progress.”

Monem Zafar Khan said the summit showed Pakistan’s youth had a bright future, with IT skills, career counselling, career development, start-ups and a job fair under one roof. Youth must be given opportunities and taken forward to help the country progress. It was regrettable that in 75 years not a single government university had been built in Karachi, he said. He also cited Karachi’s problems and said these should be resolved so people received facilities that were their right.

Naveed Ali Baig said the summit symbolized that youth were our future and only ray of hope. Youth faced difficulties, and Al-Khidmat, while solving them, was showing a new path. The summit sought to give youth a new direction and draw them to positive activities. This was the era of technology, and the new generation could bring a revolution in IT, he said, urging youth to enter IT and choose a bright future, as Al-Khidmat was providing such opportunities.
