Punjab CM sets target for improvement in door-to-door waste collection drive

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has set a 15-day target for improving the door-to-door waste collection campaign.

Expressing displeasure over complaints regarding sanitation in various cities, the CM directed that warnings be issued to the concerned MDs over poor sanitation.

The CM chaired a meeting on the ‘Suthra Punjab’ programme and reviewed its performance in detail. The chief minister ordered the removal of the Managing Directors (MDs) of Kasur, Faisalabad and Okara over complaints regarding poor sanitation. It was also decided that MDs removed from ‘Suthra Punjab’ for poor performance would not be given any other posting.

The meeting decided to install body cameras for tracking the Field Monitoring Officers (FMOs) of ‘Suthra Punjab’. The chief minister directed Deputy Commissioners to take measures for daily monitoring of FMOs and ordered the establishment of a dedicated monitoring section to oversee their performance.

The CM directed that the ‘Suthra Punjab’ beat system be made fully operational across the province. She also ordered the activation of digital challans through Safe City cameras under the anti-littering campaign.

During a detailed briefing on the performance of ‘Suthra Punjab’, the meeting was informed that timely payments to ‘Suthra Punjab’ workers had been completed in most tehsils of Punjab. Anti-littering squads are active in all divisions of the province and have conducted 77,137 inspections and issued 9,353 warnings. The squads also issued 19 challans over littering.

In Lahore, the anti-littering squad has conducted 53,186 inspections, while 2,156 digital challans have been issued through Safe City cameras.

The briefing further revealed that 37,852 bins had been installed at different locations across Punjab for disposal of waste.

A total of 676,551 complaints related to ‘Suthra Punjab’ have been received across the province, of which 99 per cent have been resolved.
