Lahore High Court (LHC) Judge Justice Raheel Kamran Sheikh has resigned from his post, citing personal reasons, Aaj News reported on Thursday.

The judge sent his resignation to President Asif Ali Zardari under Article 206 of the Constitution of Pakistan, 1973. A copy of the resignation was also forwarded to the registrar of the Lahore High Court.

Justice Raheel said he was resigning from the office of high court judge with immediate effect.

He said serving as a judge and contributing to the administration of justice in accordance with his oath and conscience had been an honour and a privilege.

“The years I spent as a judge of this court have been among the most constructive and fulfilling years of my professional life,” he said.

The judge said that after deep and continuous reflection, he had concluded that it would be better for his further professional growth as a jurist, and for his ability to contribute to the rule of law and access to justice, to engage more extensively in legal scholarship, policy research and the study and practice of comparative judicial methods.

Justice Raheel expressed gratitude to his senior colleagues, fellow judges and court staff for their guidance, support and dedicated assistance.

He said he was leaving the court with an unwavering commitment to the Constitution and the rule of law.

Justice Raheel was appointed as an additional judge of the Lahore High Court on May 7, 2021. He was due to retire in 2036.
