MUZAFFARABAD: The Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) government has announced the phased restoration of internet services across the state, fulfilling newly elected Prime Minister Iftikhar Gilani’s commitment to restore connectivity for the public.

According to a notification issued by the AJK Home Department, internet services have been fully restored in Neelum district of the Muzaffarabad Division. Internet services have also been completely restored in Haveli Kahuta district.

The notification stated that DSL services have been restored in Mirpur and Bhimber, while in Jehlum Valley, Bagh, Dhirkot and Kotli, DSL services have so far been restored only for educational institutions and banks.

According to the Home Department, educational institutions and banks will be provided with whitelisted DSL connections. Heads of the institutions seeking to be whitelisted will have to submit affidavits and provide an assurance that the internet service will not be used against national security.

The notification further stated that internet services will remain suspended in the Poonch Division districts of Rawalakot and Sudhanoti.

It may be recalled that newly elected AJK Prime Minister Iftikhar Gilani had earlier announced that internet services in the valley would be restored within the next two days.
