ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday directed the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and all relevant departments to deploy every available resource to provide immediate relief and assistance to people affected by flooding, amid continuing monsoon rains and a worsening weather situation in parts of the country.
The prime minister issued the directive while talking to NDMA Chairman Lt Gen Inam Haider Malik, who briefed him on the latest weather conditions and the flood situation, particularly in the wake of the ongoing monsoon rains.

Sharif stressed the need for an effective and coordinated response in flood-hit areas and directed the NDMA to maintain close coordination with provincial authorities and provincial disaster management authorities (PDMAs) to ensure that relief operations reach affected communities without delay.
He also praised the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and modern technology at the National Emergencies Operation Centre (NEOC), underlining the importance of technology-driven systems in monitoring emergencies, assessing risks and improving the government’s response to disasters.
During the meeting, the NDMA chairman briefed the prime minister on the relief operations currently under way in flood-affected areas and the measures being taken for the rehabilitation of people displaced or otherwise affected by the floods.
Malik informed the prime minister that, with the federal government’s support, the NDMA’s relief operations would continue in flood-hit areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
The meeting comes as country remains in the grip of the monsoon season, with authorities maintaining close watch on weather patterns and the potential for further flooding.
The prime minister’s directives indicate that the federal government is seeking to strengthen coordination between national and provincial disaster-management bodies as relief and rehabilitation efforts continue.
The NDMA has been tasked with ensuring that available resources are mobilised effectively, while coordination with provincial institutions is expected to facilitate a more unified response in areas facing the impact of heavy rains and flooding.
The prime minister was also apprised of the NDMA’s ongoing assessment of the situation and its arrangements for supporting affected populations in the coming days.
