LAHORE: The Punjab Walled Cities and Heritage Areas Authority on Friday marked Pakistan’s 79th Independence Day with patriotic fervour, illuminating major historic landmarks across the city and hosting community celebrations at the iconic Delhi Gate.
It celebrated Independence Day with great national spirit and enthusiasm. On this occasion, significant historical heritage sites, including Lahore Fort, Shalamar Gardens, Shahdara Complex, and the Royal Passage at Delhi Gate, were beautifully illuminated and decorated in national colours.
Moreover, a special flag-hoisting and cake-cutting ceremony took place at the historic Delhi Gate of the walled city of Lahore, where hundreds of children, residents, and community members participated. The children actively took part in national song competitions, showcasing their patriotism and love for Pakistan.
Following the ceremony, an Independence Day walk was organised from Delhi Gate to Wazir Khan Chowk. This event was attended by children, local community members, and officials from the Punjab Walled Cities and Heritage Areas Authority, all proudly carrying the national flag. The walk highlighted the strong connection between Pakistan’s national spirit and its rich cultural heritage.
Speaking on this occasion, Authority Director General Anjum Al-Saqib stated, “Our historical heritage sites are an essential part of our national identity. Celebrating Independence Day at these historical venues helps our younger generation connect with their history, culture, and heritage. The Punjab Walled Cities and Heritage Areas Authority is committed to making these sites more vibrant and meaningful for the public.”
