LAHORE: PPP leaders in Lahore, including Ahmed Ghuman, Sania Kamran and Azain Gulzar, demanded a judicial commission to probe the suspicious death of two women in Pakpattan, allegedly buried while in police custody after reportedly suffering simultaneous heart attacks.
Ghuman alleged that Punjab’s police system had “collapsed”, criticized Maryam Nawaz over “rising crimes against women”, and called for “polygraph tests of her aides”.
He demanded of the government to order the girls’ postmortems, following the same standard set in the Raza Mir case and urged the federal interior minister to help rebuild Punjab police’s capacity.
Meanwhile, Kamran praised Field Marshal Asim Munir’s role in easing US-Iran tensions and President Zardari’s diplomacy, while urging talks with the Muslim League on Azad Kashmir.
She raised concerns over re-polling controversies and demanded justice for assault victims beyond mere suspensions.
Gulzar criticized Lahore’s “collapsed sewerage system”, worsening traffic, limited “Suthra Punjab” coverage, poor hospital conditions, and rising load-shedding despite solar investments, demanding a transparent probe into police-related assaults on women.
