Independence Day today

LAHORE: The nation is celebrating the Independence Day on Friday (today) with national zeal and fervour and a resolve to work with the spirit of Pakistan Movement to make the country a true Islamic welfare state.

The day will dawn with thirty-one gun salute in the Federal Capital and twenty-one gun salute at provincial headquarters.

Special prayers will be offered in mosques after Fajr prayer for peace, solidarity and prosperity of country.

President Asif Ali Zardari will hoist the national flag at a special ceremony in Federal Capital. Similar flag hoisting ceremonies will also be held at provincial, divisional and district headquarters across the country.

Buildings, streets, markets and public places have been decorated with national flags, buntings and colourful lights, giving a festive look to the towns and cities.

A wide range of programs including seminars, exhibitions, cultural events and other activities have been organized to commemorate the Independence Day with traditional zeal and fervour and to highlight the sacrifices of the nation’s forefathers.

ISPR has released a national song “Mera Pyara Watan Pakistan” on the occasion of Independence Day. The lyrics of the song reflect deep love for the motherland and national unity.

Radio and TV channels will broadcast special programmes in connection with Independence Day, highlighting services of heroes of Pakistan Movement and paying tributes to their extra ordinary contributions for making Pakistan a reality.

On the directives of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, Independence Day celebrations have formally commenced across the province. As part of the celebrations, the Punjab Information and Culture Department organized a grand Independence Day Music Concert at Alhamra Cultural Complex, which was attended by a large number of citizens.

Renowned singers Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Fakhir Mehmood and Yashal Shahid enthralled the audience with their performances. Provincial Information Minister Azma Bokhari, Provincial Minister for Mines and Minerals Sher Ali Gorchani, Information Secretary Tahir Raza Hamdani, and other prominent personalities also attended the event.

The audience expressed immense enthusiasm during the performances of national songs, while chants of “Pakistan Zindabad” and “Pak Army Zindabad” echoed throughout the venue. Participants also paid tribute to the martyrs and ghazis of the Marka-e-Haq.

At the beginning of the Independence Day Music Concert, a special documentary highlighting the life and struggle of the Father of the Nation, Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, was screened. On the occasion, the Punjab Information and Culture Department also released a special national song prepared for Independence Day.

Titled “Rahe Ta-Qayamat Mera Pakistan,” the national song has been performed by renowned singer Fakhir Mehmood.

Speaking on the occasion, Punjab Information Minister Azma Bokhari said that freedom is a great blessing and we must value it. She said that our forefathers secured this homeland after immense sacrifices; therefore, safeguarding Pakistan’s freedom and security is a collective responsibility of all citizens.

Azma Bokhari said that Pakistan’s martyrs and ghazis will remain our pride forever. The entire nation salutes the mothers of the martyrs whose great sacrifices laid the foundation for the protection and prestige of the homeland.

The Information Minister said that the successful partnership between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir continues to deliver results. Under their leadership, Pakistan is achieving success and moving forward.

Azma Bokhari further said that Punjab is moving towards becoming the number-one province on the strength of its performance. She said that the purpose of Independence Day celebrations is to highlight the spirit of patriotism, acquaint the younger generation with the struggle and sacrifices behind the creation of Pakistan, and promote love for the country.
