LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has directed that a survey of all dilapidated buildings be carried out in every city immediately after the monsoon season and ordered the early completion of Punjab Development Programme (PDP) Phase-I.
The CM directed the authorities to submit an impact study report on sewerage and drainage projects and reviewed progress on PDP schemes in Vehari, Burewala, Tandlianwala, Jaranwala, Jalalpur Jattan, Sambrial, Muridke, Khudian, Kabirwala, Chak Jhumra, Bhalwal and Attock.
Chairing a special meeting to review progress on the Punjab Development Programme, the chief minister was given a detailed briefing, while deputy commissioners from across the province attended via video link.
The meeting also reviewed projects in Kamalia, Toba Tek Singh, Gojra, Ali Pur Chattha, Chichawatni, Daska, Layyah, Sillanwali, Wazirabad, Bahawalnagar and Mailsi.
The chief minister directed that a case study of PDP Phase-I be prepared and also ordered the compilation of public feedback on the programme.
Progress reports on projects in Sahiwal, Faisalabad, Multan, Gujranwala, Sheikhupura, Nankana Sahib, Rawalpindi and Sialkot were presented during the meeting.
The meeting was informed that underground storage tanks had been made fully operational in 29 cities, while construction was underway in 21 others.
The chief minister commended Lahore Deputy Commissioner Captain Ali Ijaz and Gujranwala Deputy Commissioner Naveed Ahmad Sheikh for their performance. She appreciated Captain Ali Ijaz for remaining at the Baghbanpura building collapse site for 27 hours until the last trapped citizen had been rescued from the debris.
She also expressed satisfaction over the completion of rainwater drainage operations in Gujranwala within six hours despite record rainfall.
Maryam Nawaz said that newly installed sewerage systems had led to a marked improvement in drainage in several cities. She praised deputy commissioners, assistant commissioners, WASA and Suthra Punjab for their excellent performance during the monsoon, and lauded officers and officials who worked day and night to facilitate the public throughout the rainy season.
