KARACHI: Special Assistant to the Chief Minister of Sindh for Investment and Public-Private Partnership, Syed Qasim Naveed Qamar, has said that the Sindh government is implementing several major projects to promote industrialization, investment and employment in the province, including tax-free package for Dhabeji Special Economic Zone, supply of cheap electricity, grants for new industrial units, one-window operation and foreign investment projects.
Speaking at a meeting of Federal B Area Trade and Industry(FBAATI), Qasim Naveed Qamar said that industries established in the Dhabeji Economic Zone are being given a tax-free package, while no duty is being collected on the import of industrial machinery.
He said that the Sindh Enterprises Development Fund has launched a one-window operation to facilitate the business community so that investors can access all government facilities on a single platform.
He said that a special committee has been formed under the supervision of the federal government to protect the business community and resolve their problems, while a modern hatchery project covering six acres in Hawkes Bay will be activated next September.
He said that 800 youth from all over Sindh will be trained to prepare curricula in different languages ??and provided with employment opportunities, where their salary will be at least Rs75,000.
Qasim Naveed Qamar announced that a grant of up to Rs35 million will be provided to investors for establishing industrial units in Thatta, Badin and Sujawal.
He said that an agreement has been signed on the recycling of treatment plants under a project worth 489 million euros with the support of the World Bank, which will benefit the industrial and environmental sectors.
He added that plans are being made to provide relatively cheap electricity to the Dhabeji Economic Zone at about 10 cents per unit from Thar Coal and Jhampir Wind Power projects so that the cost of industrial production can be significantly reduced.
According to him, negotiations are underway with two foreign companies under public-private partnership for the establishment of a value-added ecosystem, while Chinese companies have also been invited to invest in mango, date and tomato cultivation.
Sheikh Tahseen, President of the Federal B Area Trade and Industry, said that a reduction in electricity tariffs has become inevitable for the survival of the industrial sector and an increase in domestic exports. He stressed that the establishment of new industrial zones is the need of the hour for the development of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and special attention should be given to the SME sector in industrial areas. Incentive package should be given.
In his address, FBAATI President Sheikh Tahseen said that the government should effectively involve the business community in the public-private partnership model for timely completion of development projects and promotion of investment so that full benefit can be derived from the experiences and resources of the private sector.
At the ceremony, industrialists Idrees Gigi, Babar Khan and others welcomed the steps taken by the Sindh government for the industrial sector and expressed hope that the rapid implementation of these projects will significantly increase investment, employment and exports, while new industrial activities will also be promoted in the province.
