LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Secretary General Salman Akram Raja on Thursday said that discussions regarding new provinces could only take place after the release of PTI founder Imran Khan.
He expressed these views while talking to the media during his visit to the home of journalist Natiq Rehan, who was tortured by police outside the Lahore High Court during the PTI protest on August 5. He was accompanied by PTI leader Shaukat Basra.
Salman Raja said that while the topic of new provinces can be discussed, it is important to note that everything in the current system lacks authenticity. He added that the call for a PTI march to Islamabad on September 27 has been announced, and this will not be a one-day event; “we will continue our struggle until we achieve our goal”.
While expressing solidarity with Natiq Rehan, Raja condemned the police brutality and stated that violence against journalists is unacceptable under any circumstances, and the culprits must be brought to justice. He demanded the immediate registration of a case against the responsible officials.
He observed that the Punjab police have wronged Natiq Rehan; what happened to Rehan was inappropriate. “He was simply performing his journalistic duties, but the Punjab police subjected him to severe torture. What happened on that day was an atrocity against humanity. We salute Rehan for his hard work in capturing the violence that occurred on August 5,” he added.
