ISLAMABAD: The federal government has almost doubled the value of Diyat for the financial year 2026-27, raising it by nearly 97 percent to Rs19.352 million from Rs9.829 million last year following a sharp increase in the market price of silver.
The Finance Division, through a notification, declared Rs19,352,390 as the value of Diyat in pursuance of sub-section (2) of Section 323 of the Pakistan Penal Code (Act XLV of 1860).
The revised amount represents an increase of Rs9,523,720, or approximately 96.9 percent, over the Diyat value of Rs9,828,670 notified for the financial year 2025-26.
According to the notification, the amount corresponds to the value of 30,630 grams of silver, which serves as the statutory benchmark for determining Diyat under sub-section (1) of Section 323 of the Pakistan Penal Code.
Under Pakistan’s criminal justice system, Diyat is the financial compensation payable to the legal heirs of a deceased victim in cases where settlement is permissible under the law. The amount is revised annually by the federal government in line with prevailing silver prices, as prescribed under the Pakistan Penal Code.
The Finance Division said the revised Diyat value would remain applicable throughout the financial year 2026-27 for the purposes specified under Section 323 of the Pakistan Penal Code.
