US lawmakers meet Field Marshal Munir, discuss security, economic cooperation

Two members of the US House of Representatives met Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, at the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi on Monday to discuss regional security, bilateral defence cooperation and economic engagement.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Congressman Ryan Keith Zinke of Montana and Congressman Michael James of Washington held talks with the army chief on matters of mutual interest, regional security and avenues for expanding bilateral economic cooperation.

During the meeting, Field Marshal Munir highlighted Pakistan’s economic potential, saying sustainable regional stability is closely linked to economic growth, trade expansion and regional connectivity.

He also outlined the country’s ongoing structural reforms aimed at creating a business-friendly environment and attracting foreign investment.

The visiting lawmakers acknowledged Pakistan’s role in promoting regional stability and economic resilience. Both sides also discussed opportunities to strengthen bilateral trade, private-sector partnerships and broader economic collaboration.

The US delegation thanked the military leadership for its hospitality and expressed its commitment to deepening economic, commercial and institutional ties between Pakistan and the United States, the ISPR said.
