KARACHI: Sindh Governor Syed Muhammad Nihal Hashmi on Friday underscored the importance of timely justice as the cornerstone of the rule of law, recognising the legal fraternity’s pivotal role in upholding the Constitution, strengthening democratic institutions and ensuring public confidence in the justice system.
The Governor made the remarks during a meeting with a delegation of the Hyderabad High Court Bar Association, led by its acting president Ms Rehana Nazir Gujar, here at the Governor House.
The delegation included Barrister Naseer Hashmi, Syed Shahzad Ali Shah, Asif Ali Abro, Javed Ali Buriro, Owais Aziz Arain, Kamran Sheikh, Ziauddin Sheikh and Hina Batool Syed.
The two sides discussed the judicial system, issues facing the legal community, legal education and the need to modernise the profession through greater use of technology and continuous professional training.
“Timely delivery of justice is the foundation of the rule of law,” Lawyers have a vital responsibility in safeguarding the Constitution, ensuring the supremacy of law and facilitating citizens’ access to justice, Governor said.
He emphasised that keeping pace with evolving legal requirements and technological advancements has become essential, and stressed continuous training and capacity-building programmes to equip lawyers with modern legal skills.
The delegation invited the Governor to visit the Hyderabad High Court Bar Association to address the legal fraternity, which he accepted.
The visiting lawyers also sought the Governor’s support for organising seminars, conferences and professional training programmes aimed at enhancing the capacity and expertise of lawyers.
Hashmi assured the delegation of his full cooperation in promoting professional development within the legal community, and strengthening legal education and training initiatives through Sindh.
