KARACHI: “If the government continues to create uncertainty instead of providing a stable and business-friendly environment, its vision of economic stability and sustainable growth will remain unattainable,” said Faisal Moiz Khan, president of the North Karachi Association of Trade & Industry (NKATI).

He expressed serious concern over the government’s decision to revise petroleum prices on a daily basis, warning that the policy could have far-reaching consequences for Pakistan’s industrial sector, exports and the overall economy if not reviewed immediately.

Faisal Moiz Khan said the country was already grappling with high inflation, soaring production costs, an energy crisis and an uncertain business environment. Introducing daily fluctuations in petrol and diesel prices had added another layer of instability for manufacturers and exporters struggling to remain competitive, he said.

He also noted that the export sector was among the hardest hit by the policy.

Exporters typically calculated production costs and finalized monthly contracts well in advance, but daily changes in fuel prices were constantly altering manufacturing costs, disrupting export orders, pricing agreements and commitments made to international buyers.

He said the unpredictable movement in fuel prices was also driving frequent changes in transportation costs, creating uncertainty across supply chains and affecting the prices of raw material.

As a result, industrialists were finding it increasingly difficult to prepare production schedules, cost estimates and long-term business plans.
