ISLAMABAD: Pakistan People’s Party Parliamentarians (PPP-P) Secretary General Syed Nayyer Hussain Bukhari on Wednesday said that his party had played a decisive role in sustaining the country’s democratic system by supporting the PML-N government and expressing confidence that the PPP would secure a majority in the upcoming Azad Kashmir elections.
“The continuity of the parliamentary and democratic system is indebted to the PPP. Had the PPP not extended its support, Maryam Nawaz’s uncle would not have become the Prime Minister, and Maryam Nawaz would not have become the Chief Minister of Punjab,” said Nayyer Bukhari.
Commenting on governance in Punjab, he said that a single day of rain turns Punjab’s roads into ponds. Yesterday’s rain exposed the condition of roads in Lahore and Gujranwala. “This is the state of development: Punjab is flooded every year,” he said.
He further said that the highest number of corruption cases involve PML-N leaders. On Azad Kashmir, Bukhari said the decision on who becomes Prime Minister of Kashmir would be made by the people of Kashmir. He said the PPP’s position was that elections should be postponed until the law and order situation improves. However, PML-N ministers had maintained that it was a constitutional matter and that elections should be held on time.
“Now that phased elections have been announced in Kashmir, where are those PML-N ministers who used to talk about the Constitution?” he asked.
Regardless of the circumstances, the PPP will contest the elections and secure a majority, he asserted. With public support, the PPP will become the majority party in the Assembly and elect its own Prime Minister in Azad Kashmir.
Referring to Nawaz Sharif, he said Nawaz Sharif had opened his eyes very late. He is not even a candidate for the migrant seats. He could not become Prime Minister of Pakistan, and now he has developed a desire for Kashmir.
“I am glad that Nawaz Sharif has returned to politics, even if it is only out of a desire to become Prime Minister of Kashmir,” Bukhari concluded.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Central Secretary Information Nadeem Afzal Chan accused Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz of making “false allegations” against the PPP during her public rally in Muzaffarabad, saying the PML-N government’s “incompetence and corruption” had pushed Punjab into crisis.
In a statement, Chan said the condition of Punjab reflected the failure of the PML-N government’s governance, adding that the slogan of a “Clean Punjab” had proved to be nothing more than a slogan.
He said a single day of rainfall had exposed the province’s development claims, with roads turning into ponds and residents stranded in their homes.
Chan said the situation in Gujranwala and Layyah was particularly alarming, where streets and markets resembled streams after the rain. He claimed that despite billions of rupees being spent on advertisements and tall promises, the ground reality was entirely different.
