LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has expressed profound grief over the loss of precious human lives in various rain-related incidents across the province and extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families.
The chief minister urged the public to strictly observe safety precautions during the ongoing spell of rains and appealed to parents to prevent their children from bathing in floodwaters, canals and streams.
She also appealed to residents of unsafe buildings to voluntarily evacuate weak-roofed houses, damaged structures and dilapidated buildings to avoid any untoward incidents.
Chief Minister directed deputy commissioners, assistant commissioners and other relevant departments to closely monitor unsafe and dilapidated buildings. She ordered continuous monitoring of rivers, canals and flood channels to ensure public safety. She instructed the authorities to ensure the immediate drainage of rainwater from streets, markets, roads and particularly underpasses. The CM directed commissioners, deputy commissioners, assistant commissioners and other concerned officers across the province to remain present in the field and actively supervise relief and drainage operations.
Emphasising the need to maintain smooth traffic flow during the rains, the chief minister directed all relevant departments to remain fully alert and perform their duties with utmost diligence.
