According to a news report, there has been no gas supply in Block 14 of Federal B. Area in Karachi for the last one month. All the complaints that the residents have lodged with the quarters concerned have so far fallen on deaf ears. As a measure of last resort, the residents of the area have now appealed to the Federal Minister for Petroleum, Ali Pervaiz Malik, to take immediate notice of the situation. Gas and electricity are two most basic utilities for the households, and disruption of supply in either of the two utilities brings life to a standstill, especially the disruption in supply of gas.
The plight of the residents of the area in question has not been publicized to the extent it should have been considering the fact that it has become impossible for the families to cook meals at home. One can but feel angry over the apathy of the staff of the gas company who have continuously been putting the complaints of the residents on the back burner. In such a pathetic situation most of the residents have no option but to buy food from restaurants three times a day.
